The “Hips Don’t Lie” singer, Shakira, 45, life is falling apart.
In June 2022, it was announced that Shakira would split up with her ex Spanish soccer star Gerard Pique.
The pop singer added that the breakup has been tough on her and her kids.
“It’s really upsetting for two kids who are trying to process their parents’ separation,” she said. “And sometimes I just feel like this is all a bad dream and that I’m going to wake up at some point. But no, it’s real.”
In her Elle interview, Shakira reiterated — as a representative for the singer told “Good Morning America” last month — that she is “confident” that she has enough proof to support her case and that justice will prevail in her favor against what she called “false accusations” and “fictional claims.”
“I have to fight for what I believe,” she said, referring to her decision in July to reject a settlement offer from the Spanish prosecutor on the case. The terms of that settlement have not been made public.
A date for the trial has yet to be set.
In July 2022, the Colombian singer claimed she was innocent and rejected a deal offered by Spanish prosecutors.
The deal offered to Shakira was not released to the public, but her PR firm insists that she has already paid the due taxes and will take the case to trial.
Shakira’s rise to fame started when she was 14 in Barranquilla, Colombia, and hit the pinnacle of success in 2001 after she taught herself English.
The singer said that writing her latest album is helping her through “one of the most difficult, darkest hours of my life.”
The singer said that even though she’s struggling, family and friends check in with her, and she’s confident this dark time will pass.
